About Us

Thank you for your curiosity in our collection! It’s a true pleasure to have you here.

We are often asked about our process and history: Catherine Canino Jewelry has been designed & handmade in NYC by a team of artisans/ crafts people since 1999. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Catherine has created jewelry for her own label and other iconic fashion and jewelry brands since 1989.

Our factory is in the heart of the jewelry district on 47th street. This is where we do all the gritty stuff: master model work, casting, soldering, assembly and polishing. Signature hardware and closures are integral to our process.

Next step: beautiful pearls, leather, ribbon, cording and stones are either set, cemented, woven, knotted or stitched. Combining color & texture with our hardware is a distinguishing factor of our brand. Each piece is made entirely by hand, with huge attention to detail.

Our goal is to create everyday, wearable, clean and classic pieces for the modern woman to give or to get…..we hope you enjoy your piece!

Q&A with Catherine

Q: What inspires your creativity?

Catherine: I love the heritage, history and emotional connection of jewelry, and am a stickler for craftsmanship and technique. Equestrian tack, nautical links, architectural details and estate jewelry are go-to inspirational subjects for our hardware design.

And, new materials: stones, leather or cording are exciting! We apply upcoming trending color palettes to the line 4-6 times a year

 New materials

I usually sketch ideas…our team turns these into technical renderings and we begin the lengthy process of creating an original master model.

Q: Explain your fashion philosophy:

Catherine: I have been obsessed with fashion forever. Here is an early attempt…

(This early look is a bit over the top!)

These days, as a busy mom, I lean towards clean shapes (tried and true silhouettes which I know work) monochromatic colors (with a seasonal pop…I am feeling for a mustard-y yellow lately) and luxe touches. Jewelry is, of course, a must, but doesn’t need to be match-match. I love seeing our clients stack sentimental pieces with our statement necklaces. Personally, my medium pebble pearl earrings in classic gold and white rarely leave my ears. Tassels and chokers blend beautifully with pearls! Please feel free to send us photos of your own creative mix!

Q. Five things which are integral to your work day?

  1. Daily exercise and caffeine!
  2. It’s really easy to get caught up in the nitty gritty daily chores of running the business. I make sure to have some aspect of the creative process present in each day, even just for 15 minutes.
  3. I have always had a dog at my side in my studio! First Poco, then Otto and now Enzo, my little terrier-mix rescue.
  4. Appreciating my team of talented, dedicated staff.
  5. Spending time with my 12 year old son, Luca. He comes to the studio after school to do homework, help with shipping and take Enzo out for a walk. A great intern!
